Ed sanders was considered the best boxer ever from an early age. Only death could keep him from the Olympic medals, his trainer said. Unfortunately that sentence became reality 2 years later.

He was only 12 years old but people saw him as an 18 year old he was so big and strong that everything just got crushed. His nickname was also the “big ed”. At school the ( jordan high school) he was known as friendly, kind and above all very intelligent. But was not yet seen as a boxer but more as a soccer player or athlete. A year later he went to compton college where they told him he had to box. And so he did. In 1950 he was scouted by a soccer scout and a boxing scout went to boxing. In his first fight big ed immediately defeated the pacific heavyweight Champion. He also improved records so he had never lost a match until he was 20 years old. In 1951 he had to go to the army to fight in Korea as a marine. He stayed with the army and joined the army boxing team. And toured Europe where he competed in the golden gloves in Berlin and also won. After his military service a boy’s dream came true. He was called up for the Olympic championship but still had to do some tests so in those qualifications he was defeated for the first time ever by lloyd willis from the American army but still ended up in the team and hijacked the last clearing by beating left-wing willis out of the field with a crushing left-wing willis. At the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helinski he won the first 3 rounds for “big ed”. And came in the final against the swede inmar johhanson. But he didn’t get a medal because the referee didn’t think sanders were fighting and so he didn’t get a medal or a second place or a third place but was worn by policemen from the ring. and when the press asked him why he didn’t attack, his answer was clear. I was waiting for the 3rd round. On November 11th 1954 he fought willie james his sparring partner. That fight was without realizing it his last sparring partner willie james gave him the last slap on the face and fell backwards the people around the ring tried to hallen him back but all the help came too late the when only 24 year old legend “big ed” had died. According to the coroners it was due to a blow to the brain in an earlier fight that had only worsened.
